Self Help Group

As on 31.03.2019 the bank has organized 5572 SHGs through its 28 branches. These SHGs are formed with a view to empower women folk of the District. To achieve the formation & nurturing of SHGs, the bank has appointed a Nodal Officer at the District level. At the taluk level there are supervisors of the bank who look after the overall performance of the SHGs. Further down the order there are SHG coordinators who are in constant touch with the members of the SHG. These coordinators guide the SHG members in organizing a group, conducting regular weekly or fortnightly meetings, writing necessary books pertaining to the SHGs, internal lending, internal recovery etc.

The coordinators & supervisors observe the activities of the SHG for a period of 6 months & grade them as per the parameters fixed by the bank & then recommend for their credit linkage. As mentioned earlier the bank has so far advanced an amount of Rs.1784.25 lakhs to the SHGs.

The bank has also identified nomadic people like dakkaligas, Shillekyatas Dombidasa, Sudugadu siddaru, Budubuduke who were eeking a paltry amount for their livelihood by selling articles like hairpins, ribbons, saftypins, combs & such other articles in local shandies . The bank was able to identify these people & form SHG groups through which they were brought to the banking sector. Today these groups though nomadic are able to stay as a group & are better placed in their daily livelihood. To quote an example a group of crude musicians were formed into an SHG group & were advanced loan for purchase of musical instrument & uniforms to form a musical band set. This group is now able to perform better in local functions & earn a decent living.

Many of the groups are perusing various activities like making cloth garlands, bags, mats etc., through which they are able to sustain themselves.

Though these SHG groups were borrowing loan for consumption purpose earlier later on they have slowly graduated to creating assets by way of purchasing animals like cows & buffaloes & also into sheep & Goat rearing.
